Kevin Kelly Response

The video that we watched featuring Kevin Kelly was very interesting, he talked a lot about what the future holds for technology and the internet. He mentioned how the current Web 2.0 could morph into a Web 3.0 which would create a whole new technological environment for us. He also talked about how the internet would be increasingly surrounding people in their every day lives. The internet would become an ambient environment that we simply used small windows (Technology) to pear into this world. The talk was very interesting to hear about, especially from such a well qualified source such as Kevin Kelly.

The Future of Web 3.0

It is hard to predict the future for anything, so to say what the future of the internet is going to be is hard. Altho there are many sources today that can give us an idea of what the future will look like. The internet will most likely become more of a physical environment that is displayed to us differently and more simply. Another bug effect Web 3.0 is going to have is that it will be smarter than the internet that we are used to today. It will use predictive technology and artificial intelligence to give you information and make decisions for you. The internet already acts as a personal assistant for many people, but in the future the possibilities of what your computer can do are going to be greatly expanded. I am looking forward to these future technologies and what they are going to be able to do for me in my day to day life as i grow up.

Digital illustration Proposal

I would like to create an emblem for the new product that i have talked about in my written pice. I hope to use shape tools and the Pathfinder commands to come up with the design. I dont have an exact idea of how i want my finished pice to look, but i hope it can be a catchy new design for an emblem or an icon that can be associated with the new product.

Siftables: A New Technology

Recently at the media labs of MIT the development of a new product called Siftables has created a new buzz on how people can interact with one another. The product has found a nice niche to capitalize on and has the potential to become one of the next big things in portable technology. The Siftable is unlike most portable media devices out on the market, because of its size, interface and projected uses. This product has the ability to create a brand culture for itself with young people by creating a new way of interaction, like so many other successful products before it have done.

The product is a small square shape device with a 1 – 1 ½ in screen covering the face of it. The product is projected to have wireless Internet connectivity and will use Short range IR for each Siftables to communicate. Users will be able to get their newest news highlights from the New York Times app, and follow their favorite twitter threads al on a device that takes up as much room as some pocket change. The creator of this product wants it to be able to be used for “creative expressive activities” which is why the Siftable is programmed to be used in conjunction with other Siftables to create music and beats. The creator referred to how in the future people will no longer have to get onto subways with large guitars and other equipment, they can simply get together with a pocket full of Siftables and use them in different ways to create unique new sounds. The only user interface is the act of manipulating and moving the Siftable. Which is possible with the internal motion sensor, which is similar to the one built in to today’s Apple IPod Touch.

Another advantage the product has over other products is that one user can purchase more than one Siftable over the projected life of Siftables. So one person could own one Siftable or over three different Siftables. The more Siftables that you can get together the more you can do with them. It’s hard to find a good product that actually has many advantages to own more than just one of the exact same thing. So when one buyer goes out and gets one Siftable he might not just own that one for the life of the Siftable. He is most likely to go out and purches one or two more during the life of the product. Other buyers can be lured in by immediately having more than one and will porches a few when they first buy the product. The product is somewhat a reminder of the tremendously popular 90’s toy “The Tamagotchi” which was a small primitive computer that a person could interacted with by taking care of it a and playing small simple mini games. This similar 21st century idea can achieve the same success and recognition if not more as long as developers can get it to work efficiently and make it cost effective for buyers without cutting to much profitability.

The product is still in the development stages, so an actual marketing tactic has not been deployed yet. Although the product has already caused a buzz in the Technology community, the resources and ideas that are going into the products final production piece seam like they will really pay off due to all the new outside the box thinking that went into it. The product has the ability to create a culture around itself and get larger amounts of customer acknowledgement because of this. The developers have also opened this product up to whoever is interested in using a Siftables. The device has been designed to be used with small kids all the way up to adults so there is no ceiling being put on an age group or gender that it should appeal to. Another interesting thing that the people developing this product have done is they have given other developers the opportunity to get in on the action through open development apps. The product will have the ability to run internet, applications, games, and even learning tools, all of witch can be built on.

The Siftable is an amazing new product that brings an intuitive interface together with the possibility of physical manipulation to send input to the product. The product can be easily marketed and can appeal to a wide range of people of different generations. This product is unlike many other products that it would be grouped with and because of this the Siftable should be seen making a strong name and community for itself in the near future. The makers of Siftables used creative thinking and plenty of R & D to come up with this product and it will pay off because they can manage to create a new type of device and community to get involved in it.

Midterm Proposal: Siftables

I have chosen to write about a future product: The Siftable is a small media device that can be used like a small computer with internet capabilities and gaming, but also can be used in conjunction with one another. they are about the size of a keychain and have short range inferred to send information between one-another. they also can be used together in a group of people to create musical collaboration.

partner questions

1. We believe that the quality of home-grown amateur videos will continue to get better over time because the technology that individuals use will become more advanced as time goes on. Technology has been on the rise for as long as the personal camcorder has existed, and it will only continue to get better.

2. People have different views on what is involved in articles. The pieces of information may be interpreted differently and therefore the articles would be categorized differently from person to person.

3. Without transparency the world would not be able to communicate the way we can today. The lines of communication would be much harder to reach and we would not have the accessibility we are used to. It is more important in the offline world because we need to be able to communicate with each other face to face, as opposed to online via the internet.

Questions on "The Persuaders"

Q - "The Persuaders" begins by questioning the increase in the amount of advertising we typically encounter in our daily lives. How would you assess the amount of advertising you see? Too much? Too little? Just right? In your view, what difference does it make to know that people today see much more advertising in their daily lives than people 20 or 30 years ago?

The documentary “The persuaders” questions the increase in the amount of advertising that we see today in our daily lives. I think that today we can see two much advertising in our lives and it almost become time waiting. The increase in creative advertising over the pas 20 to 30 years has changed the way that consumers think completely. The advertising industry has gotten into the psychology of the consume, and in dong so have created a wave of all new different ways to get to the front of everyday peoples minds

Q - Where are things headed in the future? What are some possible scenarios that could play out as far as the direction that future persuaders may take their marketing techniques.

As of now it looks to be clear that advertiser are not going to decrease the amount that they expose themselves to the consumer, because as soon as they slow down they will be overtaken by some one increasing their visibility to buyers. In the future the use of wireless networking and user recognition that can modify adds to appeal to a specific audience. Advertising will continue to become more and more creative, and will become more specific and effective as time goes on.

Digital Nation analysis 2

After getting to see more of the film Digital Nation it was interesting t get to see new view points on todays youth and there dependence on technology. As young people submerge themselves deeper and deeper into technology they will enviably become more dependent on the technologies that they adapt too. As the film went on it displayed how some people are realy embracing the new technology and are applying it to new teaching styles. Some schools have even gone fully digital, and teaches kids using only gaming and technology to motivate these students.
They encouraged the idea that people have to adapt to technology and use it to help us in the future, the criticize how older generations judge the new generations dependence on media, and technology. In reality they may be the ones that are left behind, due to a changing world, and they are resistant to accept that.

Digital Nation Analysis

what i have seen so far in the documentary Digital Nation has been very interesting. Up until the past few years ago i did not think much about how all of the technology in my life, ended up affecting my life. this film talked allot about the results of recent changes in the way that youth think and communicate, also how they are inevitably overloading themseves with media.
I think that the message of the film so far is quite interesting and thought provoking for me so far. the information that the narrator presents is quite valid all the i am not 100% positive that i agree with what they have to say. i am anxious to see what the film has to say in the following segments, to see f the viewpoints of the presenter change or my opinion changes.
